This fridge is a lemon

onMay 5, 2011
I was actually reading reviews because I am looking for replacement for this exact GE fridge. When I read the review from localmom it's like she wrote my review for me!!! Everything she described happened to me with the exact same fridge, right down to the plastic on the drawer sliders breaking. I though maybe I just got a lemon but after reading this I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GE FRIDGE. This fridge has literally brought me to tears, 6 days without a fridge so far and 2 small children in the house, very stressful!! I hope this helps anyone looking for a fridge :)
Cons: poor manufacturing

Freezer is awkward/looses temp easily

onSeptember 2, 2010
I have only recently purchased this fridge. It is beautiful and has some jazzy features. It is, however, a bit fussy in terms of actual, practical use. My biggest beaf is with the freezer section. Thus far the only thing I can say on the plus side is that it is on the bottom.
Problems I have encountered with it thus far with the freezer:
- It is not very spacious. If you are used a top-loading freezer you will have become an expert at using the size as efficiently as possible. The drawers and baskets do not allow for easy access or versatility in terms of how you can stack or store items - and you will be rummaging in the awkward space trying to find things for an eternity.
- It is extremely sensitive to not being closed 'perfectly'. By that I mean that it may appear to be closed properly but if the slightest thing is in the way of the tracks, or the internal drawers are not perfectly closed you will find that it might defrost on you, or at the very least loose temperature. I recently discovered that I had not closed the door correctly by finding the freezer at a shocking 40 degrees - having to throw out a pile of meat and roast a whole chicken on a Wednesday night was not exactly my idea of a good time.
- The owner's manual does not have great illustrations - some of the items in diagrams are not easy to find based on what is shown in the illustration. Such as the on and off switch for the ice cube maker. It also implies that the factory setting for it is to 'off' which it is not.
- The owner's manual does not sufficiently explain the fussiness and you are likely to think that there is something wrong with the unit.
Overall it is a very handsome appliance and is easy to clean. It has some nice features (the can holders are awesome) and the top fridge is really convenient. Lighting inside makes your food look like a show piece and encourages less waste as you see everything you have in it.
Pros: Attractive, great extras, easy to keep clean
Cons: Unclear instructions, freezer is awkward - hard to store food, freezer looses temp easily, freezer drawer looks closed but is not

DO NOT BUY THIS FRIDGE!

onAugust 26, 2010
This is the worst fridge ever! From the start we have had nothing but problems with it.
1. The French doors each contain a clip at the top that work along with the rubber seals to keep the doors closed. Within the first year the clips on both doors broke.
2. The plastic brackets that the crisper drawers slide on are brittle and fragile. They crack and chip and break easily. They are NOT covered under warranty as they are not deemed a "necessary" part. Each one costs around $100 to replace.
3. In the last two months we have had three control boards in our fridge - and it still isn't working. The repairman told me that his company carries these control boards as standard parts because of horribly they are made and how often they need replacing.
4. In the same two months we have had to have the cold air regulator replaced. While our freezer remained cold, the air was not able to circulate up into the fridge to keep it cold enough. In fact, for 5 of the last 8 weeks our fridge has been nothing more than a room temperature box for perishable food.
Our fridge has finally been classified as un-repairable and we are very glad we purchased the warranty protection plan so we get a replacement. I WILL NOT purchase another GE fridge - EVER!
