I purchased this kettle a few months ago and thought it was okay. I boiled water one day and could smell a strong plastic smell. I didn't know what caused it but my whole kitchen smelled terrible for some time. The next day I used it again and I was oh so glad that I did not leave the room. There began to be a fire but I unplugged the cord right away. Something at the bottom of the base was burning and also on the bottom part. It actually ruined my new counter top as well. I have thrown out the box and receipt so don't know how to return it for a refund. I would not buy another Betty Crocker tea kettle again.

I boiled water in the kettle at least 7-8 times and it still stinks heavily of plastic and or glue. I tried a cup of tea from the last batch, big mistake. It tasted like chemicals. Whoever made this kettle has gone and used the wrong type of plastic or welding or glue or something. DO NOT BUY THIS KETTLE!
The water you boil is probably toxic.
